For Those about to Rock...

Rockstar day this week at the little guy's school. He rolled up mullet wig, tattoo sleeves & all. That child cracks me up! Not afraid of what others might think, just about enjoying the chance to dress up. Great job my son!

Salsa Red is Hot, Hot, Hot!

Here is another piece of furniture I have been working on this week. I really love these Mid Century Modern sewing desks. They are the perfect size for any space & quite chic as well. The color is Salsa Red by Benjamin Moore in semi-gloss. Listed it today on my Etsy shop as well.

I Love Rock & Roll...Hope You Do Too!

We found this vintage stereo console circa 1970 & decided it was the latest furniture victim in need of our help. We left the red speaker fabric in all its' glory & painted the rest a light turquoise. The inside houses an 8-track, turntable & stereo. All are working except the 8-track. Evan really enjoyed the disco album we played on it! It is now available on my Etsy shop.

Run, Forest, Run!!!

Mason ran in his first cross country meet this week. So proud of him! He ran two miles with the other junior high boys. He was #98 out of a few hundred boys. He looked great, in spite of the short shorts (hehe)!

True Love is...

When your hubby goes & picks out pieces of furniture, buys them, brings them home, sands them, and then paints them too!!!! Wow- roses are over-rated! He must really love me! He did a good job too; I may make him paint more often :)

Mid Century Too Modern???

Did you know there are people who "police" the Mid Century furniture? Well, it's true! Both my sister-in-law (The Turquoise Iris on Etsy) & I have received emails and actual phone calls telling us that we are RUINING the furniture!!! I politely informed my caller that I found and rescued the furniture from its near delapidated state. She told me that people would pay money for it if we weren't ruining it by painting it- LOL. I again informed her that MANY people desire our more modern take on the amazing finds and that they actually pay me good money for the makeovers that I do :P So my hubby being the smart (well, you know) that he is, posted my latest dresser on craigslist with a little side note stating: If you are the Mid Century Modern police move along. There is nothing to see here. If you are selling crazy, we are all stocked up!!!! LOL, gosh I LOVE that man! Let me know what you think of this one. I like that the yellow color pops against the dark gray, like a man's wool suit & yellow tie- mostly it can function as a dresser in an adult room, teen room, nursery, as a TV console, or even as a buffet.

A New School is...Cool!

It's that time again. Every year the summer seems to fly by faster & faster. Since we recently moved, both boys will be going to new schools & Mason is starting junior high. So far, so good; they both seem to like third & seventh grade. So here's to a year of learning & growing.

Front Door Gets a Face Lift

I am making many changes to our new home. We'll start with the front door since that is what you see first. It started out a dark red & now it's yellow- the color is by Behr & is called June Day. I painted both sides this color & am very pleased. Thanks to Dionne for suggesting the yellow front door; it never crossed my mind, but I love it & no one else in our neighborhood has one!

Sunny Yellow is Making Me Smile

Whew, it's been sizzling HOT here this week! I am a little behind on finishing up my latest finds due to the soaring temps; they have really made working in the garage unbearable even late at night. Finally completed them today; I think the sunshine had stuck in my thoughts because both of these pieces are a cheery sunshine yellow. Two completely different styles- one Shabby Chic & the other Mid Century. I priced the sewing desk higher than usual hoping that if someone really wants it, I will be able to part with it- if not it will become part of my home & that's just fine with me :)

Put Your Feet Up & Stay A While

I came across this interesting little "tool stool" as it is labeled. As you can see someone's booty had bowed the stool seat a bit- Reminds me of one of my favorite songs... "I like big butts & I cannot lie!"- that Sir-Mix- a-Lot is pretty awesome, right? LOL It was in need of some TLC- so that's just what it got. It already had a great shade of industrial orange paint with other paint splatters here & there, plus it was a little beat up- (added coolness).I added batting to the seat, some fabric, and a leather belt for added manliness. This would be great as a foot stool-ottoman in a boy's room. I also found this serving cart/bar cart a couple of weeks ago & have taken it apart and painted the shelves. It is pretty old; there is a date stamped on the bottom shelf, but it is smeared & I can't quite make it out. I took off the old contact paper, sanded over the rust & then sealed it with some Rustoleum paint. Looks as good as new. The butcher block top is really great too, just needed some olive oil to shine it up. Both going on my etsy shop today. Happy Friday!

Old Friends are the Best Friends

Did I say old? I meant we've been friends for quite some time (elementary & junior high)- but that wasn't that long ago! We are still young! My husband & I both attended our 10year...eeerrrr...20year (ouch- that stings a little) reunions this summer. How great to see everyone! It was nice to catch up, some people I hadn't spoken to since graduation (besides the occasional message on Facebook). So I've added a pic of my husband & I, then another of my friends since chidhood (Marcy & Ronni- Tricia wasn't able to make it). Love these ladies- reminds me of something we used to write on our notes LYLAS (love ya like a sis)- LOL, good times!

Our Amazing Spider-Man

The big day he's been so anxiously awaiting arrived! We took Evan to see the Amazing Spider-Man last night. Of course, he wore his mask and glove. Not a care in the world (shouldn't we all be a little more like that- do what we love & not care what others think)- he received lots of positive comments. He wore it the entire time waiting in line & took it off when the movie started (since no one could see his face due to the dark theater) and then put it right back on when the movie ended. The movie was great; we liked Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. Evan & Spidey go way back to his toddler years. He has now outgrown his Spider-Man costume, but I'm sure we'll be purchasing another. When it did fit, he wore it to the grocery store, library, soccer games (even in sizzling temps) and pretty much anywhere else we went. I was starting to think it was his second skin :) He won't stay little forever, so I am enjoying every minute of it while it lasts!

Happy 4th of July!!!

Hope everyone is enjoying their 4th of July holiday & remembering how fortunate we are to have our freedom- God Bless our military men & women past & present. My hubby bought a new flag for the front of our home today. It looks great blowing in the wind, so I thought I'd share...
I've been working on the house this week- before & after pics coming soon.

Tiffany Blue...I love you!

Okay, so I know I fall in love with many of the pieces I redo...like the dresser in the last post, but this little lady is truly a heart stopper! When I found her at my local Habitat for Humanity store, I was quite excited & better yet- 30% off furniture that day!!! So I, well we, (my bro & I) brought her home. She was in need of veneer being stripped away & some fresh new paint & graphic wallpaper to give her the Modern look she deserved. After looking at her for a while, I remembered my grandparents having a similar piece when I was younger- even more fond of her now :) Anyway, this was a family project I tell you- stripping veneer, painting, removing hardware & hinges to be able to paint, sanding & finallly adding the new back board with wallpaper (which my oldest son also helped pick out- good job Mason!). I love the complimentary colors of the Tiffany Blue/turquoise & the orange. I decided she needs a name worthy of her vintage & modern style as well as her beautiful frame, so Jacqueline it is. Jacqueline as in the "Jackie O." Yes, stunning & makes a statement wherever she goes. I listed Jacqueline on my Etsy shop today. She will be a beautiful addition to any home. She would look great in the kitchen, dining, nursery, or girl's room. Thanks for looking.

Bright White is Dy-No-Mite!!!

I picked this dresser up several weeks ago from the thrift store hoping to use it in our living room to accomodate & distract from the large flat screen my husband insisted on having- you all know the huge eyesore so many of us have to try & decorate around :) Anyway, I got sidetracked, the dresser in all it's brown glory really needed some sprucing up. It was in excellent physical condition, so that made my job easier. I was sad when it was just too large to fit in our living room & decided to try & find it a new home. You can purchase it on my etsy shop. Did I mention I really am sad to see it go? I hate it when I rescue a piece of furniture & become so attached to it.

Never a Dull Moment

So my sweeties are still asleep & I decided to share some of their best moments in pictures. These might not be for the faint of heart, but here it is the REAL story of raising boys... Okay, so Nacho Libre isn't part of our family- but as you can see, he'd fit in nicely.
